Answer:
It's very likely that ARELIS cannot connect to the Internet on your computer. To solve this problem, check the following: a) Your Internet connection settings in Internet Explorer® might not be right. ARELIS uses an invisible web browser to connect to the Internet, based on Microsoft's Internet Explorer®. Internet Explorer doesn't need to be your default browser but please check if you can connect to the Internet, for example load www.yahoo.com in Internet Explorer. If not, then change the settings in Internet Explorer. b) Your firewall (for example, Norton® Internet Security® or Zone Alarm®) doesn't allow ARELIS to connect properly to the Internet. See the answer to the next question below. c) ARELIS remote controls MS Internet Explorer to get search engine results. Some anti-virus tools prevent ARELIS from doing that. Adjust your anti-virus tool so that it allows ARELIS to remote control MS Internet Explorer. d) You have installed an older version of Internet Explorer®. To run ARELIS, you need Internet Explorer® version 5.0, 5.5, 6.0 or better. It does not need to be the default browser. e) You're using Windows 95 or an older version of Windows NT. ARELIS will not run on Windows 95 because it uses features that are only available on Windows 98 or better. ARELIS has only been tested with the latest versions of Windows NT, this means Windows 2000 and Windows XP. |

Answer:
ZoneAlarm doesn't allow unknown software programs to connect to the Internet. For that reason, it might happen that ARELIS doesn't work properly because you're using ZoneAlarm. To add ARELIS to the list of allowed programs in ZoneAlarm, do the following: 1. Double click the ZoneAlarm "ZA" icon in the system tray on your desktop. 2. Click the "Program Control" link in the ZoneAlarm control center. 3. Click the "Program Wizard" button in the "Program Control" panel in ZoneAlarm. 4. Select "No, I want to be asked every time a new program goes out to the Internet" option. 5. Click the "Finish" link. 6. Start ARELIS. 7. Select "Check online for latest version..." in the ARELIS "Help" menu. 8. ZoneAlarm will ask you if you want to allow ARELIS to access the Internet. Tick the "Remember this answer the next time I use this program" box and click the "Yes" button. That's it. ARELIS should now be able to connect to the Internet although you're using ZoneAlarm. If it still doesn't work, tick the "Enable component control" box in the "Custom Program Control Settings" in ZoneAlarm: 1. Click the "Custom" button in the "Program Control" panel in the ZoneAlarm control center. 2. Tick the "Enable component control" box. 3. Click the "OK" button. ARELIS remote controls MS Internet Explorer to connect to the Internet. If the "Enable component control" box is not ticked, ARELIS will not work. |

|
Answer:
ARELIS gets the list of web pages that link to the competitor site from the search engines. Sometimes, the information in the search engines is not current. |
|
Answer:
ARELIS uses an invisible web browser to get its results from search engines. If that web browser opens a dialog window, for example "You're about to submit a form" then you have to confirm that window (which is not possible because the browser is invisible). To avoid this problem, do the following:
That's all there is to it. ARELIS will work properly after doing this. |

|
Answer:
Double-check your email server information in the Email Options dialog. It's important that you enter your correct POP and SMTP server names. |
|
Answer:
Your database files are probably damaged. Select "Check Database Integrity" in the "Tools" menu of ARELIS to solve that problem. Shutting down the application or operating system improperly will almost always cause corruption to a database that has been recently updated in any way. |
|
Answer:
ARELIS can only import web pages. It will not import URLs that end in ".pdf", ".doc", ".xml", ".ppt", etc. In addition, make sure that the URLs are valid, for example "http://www.domain.com/ index.htm" is not a valid URL because it contains a space character. Even web browsers cannot display such URLs. |
|
Answer:
You've probably "Large Fonts" activated on your Windows desktop. Click here to read how to switch back to "Small Fonts". Then the ARELIS windows will appear correctly. Note: If you have this problem, you use an outdated ARELIS version. |
|
Answer:
The speed of ARELIS depends on your Internet connection speed. If you have a DSL or cable modem connection, you can increase the number of concurrent connections in ARELIS. Open the Options dialog and select a higher number in the "Maximum number of concurrent connections" popup menu. Be sure that you don't run other applications in the background that require a lot of bandwidth. For example, file sharing applications such as MusicCity® Morpheus®, LimeWire® or BearShare® require a lot of bandwidth. |
