Google AdWords tracking tips

AxROI is the ideal tool to track the effectiveness of your Google AdWords.

It's actually better than Google's own tracking solution because you don't have to share your revenue numbers with Google (remember that they want your advertising dollars).

In addition, AxROI gives you detailed information about every single word that causes a click on your AdWords ads. In contrast to Google's own tracking system, AxROI allows you to find out which ad in an ad group has caused a sale.

Another AxROI advantage over Google's own tracking system is that AxROI doesn't use third party cookies (as Google does).

This mean you will get much more detailed and more accurate information with AxROI.

Here are some tips to help you track your Google AdWords ads as efficiently as possible with AxROI:

1. Use dynamic destination URLs

Google AdWords allows you to specify a destination URL that is different from the URL that is displayed in the ad:

By using dynamic destination URLs, AxROI can track exactly which keyword has been searched when someone clicks on your AdWords ad.

For example, if your maximum click for an ad group is 60 cents, use the following link as the destination URL in your ads:

The {KeyWord} variable will insert the searched keyword in the URL. If you then view the statistics in AxROI, you will see detailed click and conversion statistics for every single keyword that has triggered this Google AdWords ad.

2. Track the different ads in an ad group

If you have more than one ad in a Google AdWords group, Google does not allow you to find out which ad has received the click.

AxROI solves the problem. For example, if you have four ads in an ad group, use the following destination URL for your first ad:

For the second ad, use this destination URL:

For the third and the fourth ad, use these destination URLs:

Note the "ad-01", "ad-02", etc. after the keyword variable. If you use these click-through URLs, you know exactly which keyword has triggered the click and exactly which ad has triggered the click.

3. How to track search and content clicks separately

For most Google AdWords advertisers, content clicks usually deliver different results than search clicks. AxROI allows you to track your Google AdWords search clicks and your Google AdWords content clicks separately.

Use the following destination URL to distinguish between search clicks and content clicks:

If you want to use different bids for search clicks and content clicks use this destination URL:

In this example, the bid for search clicks is 60 cents and the bid for content clicks is 10 cents.

TIP: Detailed information on writing successful AdWords with high click-through rates and low pay click costs can be found in our ebook Successful Advertising with Google AdWords.

Note: Replace www.your-domain.com with your own domain name in all example destination URLs and adjust the bids accordingly.
