You have come to this web page because something in IBP does not work as expected. Many problems in IBP are caused by Internet security programs that do not allow IBP to connect to the Internet.
Note: The solutions below apply if the Internet connection problem happens with all keywords and websites. If the problem happens only with some keywords and websites, click here.
IBP uses two different methods to connect to the Internet. Both methods must work:
- Your security programs block IBP’s direct connection
- Your security programs don’t allow IBP to control Internet Explorer
- A spyware program hijacks the Internet connection
1. Your security programs block IBP’s direct connection
Strict firewall settings are the most common reason for Internet connection problems. If your firewall does not allow IBP to connect to Internet, then IBP cannot work correctly.
Most firewalls will ask you whether to allow a program to connect to the Internet. It’s important that you always grant IBP access. If you deny access, you must go into the firewall’s configuration program and re-allow access. Even when disabled, some firewalls deny access.
Important: Closing a firewall window by clicking on the ‘X’ in the upper right does not stop the firewall! It just minimizes the window to the system tray.
Most people use the built-in Windows firewall. For further instructions on how to unblock a program in the Windows firewall, click the "Google Search" button below:
If you use another firewall, replace "Windows firewall" in the search with the name of your firewall software (McAfee Personal Firewall, Outpost firewall, Zone Alarm, Norton Internet Security, Sygate Firewall, eTrust firewall, etc.).
2. Your security programs don’t allow IBP to control Internet Explorer
As mentioned above, IBP remote-controls MS Internet Explorer to access search engines. Some anti-virus tools don’t allow IBP to control MS Internet Explorer because they think it is virus activity.
Add IBP to the list of allowed programs in your anti-virus program so that IBP can control MS Internet Explorer. Double-check the settings of your anti-virus tool.
3. A spyware program hijacks the Internet connection
Some spyware programs hijack Internet connections so that other programs don’t work anymore. Almost always the user doesn’t know that he has spyware installed.
4. If the problem affects ranking checks on Google
If you query many result pages per keyword, Google will temporarily show no results because of unnatural search behavior. To solve that problem, use the 100 results option with 1 result page (important).
